Customer reviews for 'A Midwinter Night's Dream'

«Excellent»

One thing I love about Loreena McKennitt is her ability to find old forgotten tunes, make them her own, and bring them to us. She writes melodies that sound as if they have been around for centuries.

Far too many "holiday" albums nowadays sound alike, in part because they use the same tunes over and over...Frosty, Rudolph, and Santa. We forget that Christmas has been celebrated with music that goes back a long time. We also forget whose birthday we're really celebrating. Loreena remembers both of these facts by bringing old carols from around the world and giving us "new" songs to celebrate Christmas.

«Loreena's back on the harp !»

If you like Loreena McKennett, I love her voice !
You must own this CD, not a Christmasy CD by no means
It's a studio CD, beautifully mastered.
You must listen to the instrumental "Breton Carol" most peaceful piece of music.
Most importantly, Loreena's back on the harp !

«It is not»

According to the seal on the outside this is Loreena's first whole length Christmas Season recording. It is not: To Drive the Cold Winter Away (1987), is.

Beautiful cover artwork. As usual with her, excellent recording and sound. The Arabian atmosphere which has become McKennitt's trademark seems slightly out of place. Certainly instrumental tracks could have used vocals. Some of the songs lack the force in her previous works or other musician's versions.

Interesting and good to have, notwithstanding the horizontal graph that fits this CD.
