«Great little set!»
My son loves this set. He LOVES emergency vehicles and the more, the better. We got it when he was about 18 months and he is 26 months now and still plays with them.
They come with a lot of little parts that I put away for a while, but the vehicles themselves seem pretty sturdy. Made of metal with plastic bottoms that are screwed on. No wheels have come off, but my son isn't particularly hard on his toys. He loves the cones and puts them on his fingers.
I don't know if I would recommend them for an older child who is really into the details of "this is a paramedic van, and this is what an ambulance should look like" - the style and markings of some of the vehicles seem to be more European than American. But my son doesn't care at all.
Great little set, one of my best purchases!

«Sons decision, 5 stars. Mommy's 3 stars.»
If this was up to my son, he'd give it 5 stars. These are nice handheld size, comes with some TINY little pieces that might be better for like the 6 and up age, not my 2yr old son with a 7 month old sister. They are HEAVY vehicles and fire brigade wasn't in my lingo until these came around (I'm thinking they originated in another country?). The fire ladder kind of came apart after it was pulled on once. But they are nice variety (though all seemingly looking alike being white or red) metal diecast toys. So far they are holding up well with being banged around and dropped as long as its not on your foot b/c that really would hurt. They are ok. I like the shake and go ones better for his age and probably my fault I didn't research it good enough but they don't go at all, not unless you push them really hard..like some kind of rev up and then they move on their own, not these.

«starter set»
I didn't want to spend a lot of money on cars since they would get lost anyway or destroyed this set fit great for the budget. My 3 year old girl enjoys running the cars around a track and the coffee table. seems to be sturdy little emergency vehicles. worth the price. Nothing fancy...
