«Music from Northern Exposure - Review»
An agreeable and pleasing music selection from the series. Most music is ecclectic, but in a good way, that fairly well cross-sections or samples the wide array of quality music appearing on the series. Most but not all selections are available elsewhere with hunting, but would be quite difficult to assemble together. A few selections are Native American songs well remembered from the episodes. There are a few original music scores from the producer's musicians that wrote the theme song. I very much like their jazzy, Yiddish-feeling scores, and wish that the CD had contained several more of them, as they added that unique, creative sound to the series. This CD includes as the first track a several-minute-long full version of the theme song that is longer than the 45-second version length that is heard at the beginning of each episode. The longer version is surprisingly wonderful; I only wish it were even a bit longer. The 45-second version aired on TV is contained on the "More music from Northern Exposure" CD. There is a unexpectedly beautiful opera score (even if you don't like opera), and the final score is a short-running 3-part merge of Yiddish and Native American music that I wish were longer. The inclusion of a very well-known classic rock-and-roll song seems out of place and mis-fit when compaired to the rest of the CD, and uses up a track that could have been devoted to the other great but hard to find music aired. All selections are full-length scores. There are roughly 12 tracks. Everyone would have choosen their own favorite tracks to put on a CD, but it's worth having if you liked the series' music and generally has at least some of the stuff you remember. Its fun to go back and identify which episodes played which songs; some are hard to catch.

«Great Disapointment»
The music wasn't any of the good songs that are normally associated with the show.

«This CD compilation just makes me feel good!»
Having been a long-time fan of Northern Exposure, I was really pleased to see this CD at a used bookstore the other day and quickly snapped it up. There are 12 tracks on this CD, and some of my favorites are the theme music [of course] -such a quirky composition so evocative of the show's spirit,Jolie Louise[ by Daniel Lanois], At Last[Etta James], and When I Grow Too Old to Dream [Nat King Cole], among others. Listening to some of these tracks was like a walk down memory lane for me, remembering some of the scenes in which the songs were played. Like a long-time friend or good book, this CD is a wonderful companion on a lazy afternoon.
