«for sure an important piece within the holocaust puzzle»
those who "know" auschwitz from several books and documentations know that several things in that film are not like they were in reality. but this is not important.
the story of gisela perl - a jewish hungarian doctor in auschwitz during ww2 - is told. and it's done well! it was sad to see the US authorities' skepticism she was exposed to during her interrogation, when she applied to work as a doctor in the states and was seeking american citizenship. they even accused her to have collaborated with dr. Mengele because of her work as camp doctor. they couldn't understand that auschwitz was an independent world within the known world, with its own laws and with only one rule: to survive - no matter the cost.

«Mesmerizing»
I have studied the Holocaust for many years and this is one of the best movies I've seen. Out of the Ashes is a true story of Dr. Gisella Perl, a gynecologist who was sent to Auschwitz and forced to work along side Dr. Josef Mengele, the most vicious of all the doctors of death. You can absolutely feel Dr. Perl's pain all through this movie and Christine Lahti does an absolutely wonderful job portraying her. This movie will move you beyond words, truly it will. To think that one human being devised so much hate as to destroy so many precious people. This is not one movie I will soon forget. Dr. Perl wrote a book detailing her experiences but it is not very available and the copies that are available are priced almost beyond reach. This movie is one you should see so as not to forget there are people in the world who hate so much and that we should never become like them.

«Poignant, Moving Story»
A beautifully acted and produced movie. I highly recommend it for the quality and the story. I've got a library of 150 books on the Holocaust, and about 20 movies, and this one is definitely one of my favorites.
